How To Kiss: Rudy Ruettiger - An Example to Us All

You've probably heard of Rudy Ruettiger after the movie about his life made the big screen in 1993. Now on DVD, you can rent or own it. This is one of those stories that you can watch again and again without ever getting tired of it. This is one of the stories must see that all young people should see. This is the story of the underdog who does not abandon.

Unlike the story of a young man who fights and becomes a superstar, Rudy is the story of a kid everyone discouraged when we wanted to follow his dreams and he gave them all wrong. Is it become a football superstar? Not really, but he did reach the goal, he worked for and full filled a dream.

Born in Joliet, Ill., a working middle class Irish Catholic family, Daniel Eugene Ruettiger came into the world August 23, 1948. It is the third of fourteen children and attended Joliet Catholic Schools. In high school, Rudy played football and I loved it. Really from when he was a boy, football was his passion. His family was devoted Notre Dame fan. Rudy served in the U.S. Navy for two years just out of high school. When he left the Navy he returned to Joliet and worked at the local power plant. Dissatisfied with the direction his life was going, he asked Notre Dame. Rudy admits that he has never done well in school, and really like it. Notre Dame was denied due to low ratings, but he enrolled at Holy Cross, a small school. This is where Rudy has learned about dyslexia and that is what had caused his trouble in school.

Rudy was not super high school player who was chased by colleges and offered scholarships. He was not the guy in the news every day. He would never be the player million. He was the right man, the normal Joe and the kid with a dream. And its value is priceless. It could be any of us, and one of our children. We should learn a lesson from the life of this man, and do better for our children and family.

As you can see in the movie Rudy was so passionate that all Holy Cross, he volunteered to be "punching bag" Notre Dame teams. Has been accepted at the scout team "and practiced with the team A. All this meant was that he spent hours, hours of operation brutal plays and learning strategy of the team. It does not guarantee that he would never attend Notre Dame, or play in the team. But he devoted himself to the school, the team, and his dream. Few men submit to it, without ever yielding to discourage talk and self-doubt. After 3 years at Holy Cross and three years of denials Notre Dame, Rudy was finally accepted as a framework for his dream school. He has not earned a spot on the football team, but continued to practice with them.

The climax of the film comes when, during the last match up Rudy, he finally gets to play. Should be in place and allows the team to lead the field. It only plays the last few seconds, sacks Georgia Tech and is taken off the field on the shoulders of his teammate. With a little artistic license taken, as usual, the film was spectacular and moving. But we can not forget, it is true. This is the emotional journey of a lovely man. And an example of inspiration for us all.

Rudy graduated from Notre Dame with a BA in Sociology. He spent some time in the insurance industry, but now spends his time working with companies and groups providing forums for speakers and motivational activities. Of course, he is involved in many programs children and sports programs. This author has had the opportunity to meet Rudy, and hear repeatedly. Even years after Rudy was at Notre Dame, this life lesson is very relevant. Rudy reminds us to grow, stay positive and work for what we want. The results will be magical.
